
Fighting for Working Families
Christine works closely with residents, community leaders and elected officials to keep our community affordable, so every resident can thrive. She helped created more affordable housing through increased funding for housing vouchers for families and people with disabilities and proposals to produce more multi-family housing. Christine passed a new law to help train and place workers in local jobs through fees on new development. She advocated for increases to the minimum wage, paid family leave and policies to address income inequality.
Supporting Quality Education
Christine prioritizes investments in public education, including early childhood development, to ensure that all children have the best start for future success. Christine created a new state commission to examine transportation for homeless students to help school districts support families. She is a leader in developing strategies to ensure that all young children
receive vision screenings so they can succeed in school.Christine was recently appointed to the Autism Commission as the House Democratic member, to develop recommendations for Massachusetts to better serve the educational and developmental needs of people with autism.
Improving Health Care
Christine builds upon her expertise in health policy to strengthen our health care system. As a member of the Committee on Public Health and Committee on Health Care Financing, Christine advocated for community hospitals and local health centers to ensure everyone can get the care they need. She worked on legislation to address opiate addiction by improving treatment for addiction and creating education and prevention programs for youth.
Standing up for Equality
Christine worked hard to bring the Equal Pay bill to the floor for a vote, and supported what is now the strongest Pay Equity law in the nation. Christine made working on issues that provide equal rights a cornerstone of her first term. In her first speech on the floor of the House Chamber, Christine said “Adding “gender identity” to Massachusetts civil rights law for public accommodations joins us with 18 other states and many municipalities in protecting transgender people in places open to the general public. Ultimately, this legislation is about fairness, inclusion and equality for all.”
Preserving our Environment
Christine works to protect our environment so future generations can enjoy our natural resources. As a member of Committee on the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, Christine secured state funding to clean up and create more usable parks along the Mystic River. Christine also fought to keep the Green Line Extension, including the Community Path and a stop at Route 16, on track,by making sure transportation officials understand how vital this project is
for our future. This project will take thousands of cars off our roadways and improve air quality in our communities.
